I won’t lie, the first week of 2017 was very tough for me. So many things happened in eight days… amidst it all, two situations made me feel disappointed with a heavy heart.

I remember that one night I was feeling so drained, there was no one I could talk at that time, so I decided to kneel and cry my heart out to God. Told Him everything that happened to me, everything that I was going through. I asked for forgiveness, patience, faith, strength.

Talked about my frustrations, my mistakes, told Him how I wanted to be a better person, the things I wanted to stop doing…

Asked Him to help and guide the ones I love, and I was completely honest with Him. With a sincere heart and an open mind, I asked God for an answer, for a way out, something to solve the pain, anxiety and confusion I was feeling.

Suddenly, an amazing peace took over me. I finished that prayer being sure that I was heard, all those bad feelings went away.

Wednesday night, I received the answer that I needed:

Hebrews 10:19-25: “A Call to Persevere in Faith”

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

What I learned:

God wants you to trust and persevere.

We can have access to God all the time – church isn’t the only place we can meet Him, we don’t need a mediator (besides Jesus). We can talk to Him everywhere, anytime. All we need to do is to have confidence, be bold – He’s our God, He is merciful, He loves us, He saved us and all He wants is to see us happy. To talk with Him, we need a sincere heart because it leads us to His promises, that has been given and kept – and they’re ours! Makes us achieve peace within. He knows who we are – more than ourselves, and there’s no point in hiding who we are or what we feel.

To pray leads us to excercise our faith, replace bad thoughts and feelings with good things. Makes us believe that we can overcome bad situations, makes us trust when we can’t see where we’re going, or when we don’t understand why we’re going through these things.

When we have that relationship, it’s so much easier to forgive. So much easier to truly encourage other people to do better and be positive. When we get this support, all we want to do is the same with the next person – and this action makes us christians.

That night I learned so much about Him, so much about myself and so much about the ones I love that were going through hard times… no one could ever understand me like He did. No one could give me that kind of love and support. That night I felt stronger, ready, cleaned from all evil.

Instead of being stressed out, complaining, nervous about others’ opinions, pray.
